Darkfield Microscopy
WHAT IS DARKFIELD MICROSCOPY?
Your bloodstream is like a river. It transports oxygen, nutrients and other life-giving agents throughout your body to maintain health. It is also a hiway for detoxification, delivering cellular waste to the liver and kidneys for elimination from the body. The state of your blood can serve as a predictor of health and provide an indication of illness well before symptoms appear.
Darkfield Microscopy is a tool that allows us to view and analyze living whole blood through a microscope, which is linked to a TV screen. It evaluates the quality and movement of red and white blood cells, and the background of tiny moving light bodies known as somatids or protits. These tiny moving bodies have a life cycle which can be observed through the microscope, and different phases of their life cycle relate to disease susceptibility.
Darkfield Microscopy does not replace standard blood tests you may do with your medical doctor (such as a complete blood count) but gives us additional information about your health.
HOW IS DARKFIELD MICROSCOPY PERFORMED?
With a very fine needle, a drop of blood is taken from your finger tip and placed on a glass slide. The live blood sample is then magnified 1,500 times and immediately displayed on a video screen.
WHAT DOES DARKFIELD MICROSCOPY REVEAL?
We can detect warning signs of illness by studying the shape and functioning of the red blood cells, white blood cells, platelets and fibrin. Some of the things one can see are:
· the cellular health of the red blood cells, which may be indicative of your nutritional status
· delayed or incomplete digestion of fats, proteins and/or starches
· leaky gut syndrome
· bowel toxicity
· increased bacterial, parasitic or fungal infections
· liver or kidney stress, detected by the presence of coloured crystals in the blood
· oxygenation in the blood
· “stickiness” of the blood and tendency to clot formation
· the size, shape and numbers of platelets, which may reflect the health of your circulatory system
· the size and density of fibrin, which may indicate the amount of oxygen available to your cells
· antioxidant deficiency; increased free radical damage
· dehydration – your need for more water
· excess acidity in the body – your need for alkaline minerals
· evidence of a thyroid imbalance
· possible iron, B12 and folic acid deficiency (anemia)
· activity of your white blood cells
· the state of your immune response
· signs of heavy metal toxicity
· lymphatic congestion
· your health progress can be monitored through darkfield microscopy
· we cannot diagnose a specific illness or condition with this technique but can assess where you are on the health continuum
After a Darkfield Microscopy Evaluation, dietary and lifestyle changes, supplements and remedies are suggested to improve your blood picture.
WHAT DOES HEALTHY BLOOD LOOK LIKE?
A healthy person has red blood cells that are round, evenly shaped and free floating in plasma that is free of fat globules and undigested proteins, bacteria, fungi and/or parasites. White blood cells are translucent and actively moving. Fibrin and platelets are minimally present.
HOW OFTEN SHOULD I HAVE MY BLOOD LOOKED AT?
Observation of your blood through Darkfield Microscopy is recommended one to four times a year to monitor progress.
